First visit

What happens on your first day

A first visit is about an hour with a physical therapist. They listen, examine you, go through the job's demands and agree on a plan with you.

They explain the risks and the choices, and nothing starts until you have said yes.

The hour, step by step

  1. 01

Step 1: You tell your story

How you were hurt, what your job involves and what you want from care.

  2. 02

Step 2: The therapist examines you

Movement, strength and how you handle the tasks your job needs.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The job's demands

Together you go through what the job asks, task by task. Bring a job description if you have one.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The plan

What we would do, what to expect and who gets reports. You decide.

What to wear and bring

  • Clothes you can move in

Work clothes or loose clothing, and closed shoes. Bring work boots if the job needs them.

  • Your claim details

Your claim number and your adjuster's name, if you have a claim.

  • A job description

From your employer, if one exists. If not, we will ask you about the job.

  • Your doctor's orders

Any orders, work notes or restrictions you were given.

What is not decided on day one

We do not decide when you go back to work. The doctor on your claim decides, and we tell the doctor what you can do and what the job asks.

We do not promise how your body will respond. The plan changes as you do, and your therapist tells you what to expect at each step.

Before you come

Do I need a referral?

In Kansas, you can start without a referral. Your plan may still ask for one. A work injury claim is different: the adjuster or doctor usually authorizes care first, and we confirm that before your first visit.

Will it hurt?

We work within what you can tolerate and tell you what to expect before each new step.

Can someone come with me?

Yes. A family member, a coworker or a union representative is welcome. We ask you first about anything private.

Ready to book a first visit?

Call the front desk, or send a message and we will call you back on the next working day.
